A Tour of Our Italian Home
The time has come for us to say goodbye to our little home in (Costabissara) Vicenza, Italy after 1.5 years. Although our home will never be featured in a Southern Italian Living Magazine, I found peace and comfort inside these walls and we made some of our best memories here. From reunions and parties to new puppies and newlywed memories, we’ll always remember this place in Italy and our first home together.
While the rooms in our home never had a “theme”, they somehow turned into a hodgepodge of souvenirs from our travels mixed with IKEA and government rental furniture. A unique style of decorating! We knew we wouldn’t be there very long so we didn’t invest heavily in furniture. That mixed with wanting to save money to be able to afford to travel. It brought us many good times and we enjoyed opening our doors for guests and visitors from back home in America. Stephen and I are excited to give you the final tour of our private rental housing in Vicenza, Italy.
Let’s begin the tour from the front gate…. Enjoy this little photo series and blurbs from our home.
P.S: If you want to see what our home looked like before we moved in, you can see that tour here!

The Front Door & My Nook

My spot in the house, where all the blog work took place. I loved this little nook, I could let the dogs in and out a million times a day without getting up, and there was plenty of light coming in through the glass doors and windows.
The Kitchen
It wasn’t until we got our island from IKEA that I fell in love with our kitchen. When we originally picked out housing, it was on my must-have list for lots of counter space. This place didn’t have lots of it, but much more than most Italian homes. I wish I had more cabinet space and the refrigerator was tiny – but I loved that it was concealed and didn’t stand out. Our biggest regret from the beginning was having an entire cabinet removed and replaced with a dishwasher. The dishwasher ended up being so awful we hand-washed dishes practically the entire time we lived there – basically losing perfectly good cabinet space.
Our marriage and relationships were formed in the kitchen over cooking dinners together, glasses of wine/prosecco, grocery shopping, and parties with friends.

The Upstairs Loft
Our favorite and most used area of the house was upstairs. With wooden vaulted ceilings and great lighting, it was the perfect ambiance for movie nights, dinners, and hanging out. My favorite travel purchase is our rug from Morocco that flowed effortlessly with the wood flooring. Upstairs we also had our laundry room, a half bath, our offices, and some more storage space.

The Master Bedroom
I loved our master bedroom which also had a bathroom with a shower, a huge mirror, and a door leading outside to the patio. The only downside was that we shared a wall with our neighbor’s kitchen so when we were going to bed, they were just starting to have dinner. We combated the noise with fans and white noise machines so it wasn’t too bad. The theme of our bedroom evolved into mismatched “sailboats” somehow after collecting a few paintings, which I’ve really come to love. Our sheets, pillows, and comforters didn’t match – but it never mattered to us!

The Dressing Room
We had two extra bedrooms, one was used for a guest bedroom and one was used to store our clothes in wardrobes. Most homes in Italy don’t have closets, so we had to do a lot of brainstorming to store our clothes and items that would typically go in closests. We did the best we could to conceal items.

The Patio
Many hours were spent outside on the patio – playing volleyball or catch with Stephen, chasing the dogs around the yard, sitting around the fireplace with friends, cutting fresh roses, planting vegetables, enjoying the sunset, and so much more.
Final Thoughts
We were sad to say goodbye to our first home together and to the good life in Italy. Leaving our friends behind is one of the hardest things we have to do (besides Prosecco, cappuccinos, and my rose bushes). However, we’re ecstatic for our next adventure – first up is a long adventure filled holiday in Asia and then our move to Grafenwoehr, Germany!
